Sospan 10k

Only received the new trainers 2 days ago. So what a great way to break them in ready for the Swansea half marathon, then run the Sospan 10k race.

I knew that this race was going to be organised extremely well. I have run with the Sospan road runners in the past. They are all so friendly and knowledgeable, I just knew they would hold a great event. Thank you to all the volunteers who were marshalling, they give up their free time to support us and keep us safe.

The course was on the beautiful Llanelli millennium coastal path. The weather was stunning, was also about to get really hot as the day went on.

This was also the first time meeting Dani, a good friend I’ve met through Instagram and Facebook and was our first race together. We both had our goals and hoping to achieve them.

Starting siren went off, and we were away. The course was great, I knew what to expect through the marathon racing, training and park run. There was a great variety of runners, love that from every race.

As we got towards the turning point many of the quicker runners passed us by. Everyone cheering each other on.

Time for a water stop, very much needed as the heat is getting there. Very sweaty runner right now, even the shades are steaming up. Got past the Pwll pavilion and the support from that point was amazing. All families spending the day out cheering on complete strangers.

Nearly there, just got to run up the hill towards the beach and then turn around. As I got up the hill, many friends passed me by and cheering me on.

Now for the home straight, give it everything I got. Stretch them legs, and……… finish. Amazing support at the end from volunteers and friends.
I reached my goal time. A new personal best. Now many more to come. Guaranteed many others also achieved their goals or even run a 10k.

A great race, look forward to running many more sospan 10k’s.
